TeaChat Gaiwan Semi-Finals: Poll #4

by Chip » Feb 4th, '09, 19:11

In the semi-final round of the TeaChat Gaiwan Contest, please cast your vote for your favorite gaiwan in each of the 4 semifinal polls. Photos for each semi-final poll are located in each appropriate poll topic for you to review and decide which gaiwan reigns supreme.

PLEASE pay close attention to the "number" in front of each entry since some participants entered multiple entries.

This round of voting will close on Sunday 2/08/09 at 11:59PM The 2 gaiwan with the most votes from each of the 4 polls will advance to the final round. In the event of a tie, all top voted gaiwan will advance, BUT only one gaiwan can advance per participant.

Good luck to all participants. There will also be at least one consolation category that wil be announced, so gaiwan that did NOT advance to the final can still win a prize.

Here are a few pictures of my little gaiwan... about 5 oz. size, nice thin porcelain.

This is currently the only gaiwan I have, except for one tiny shrimp gaiwan that is a saucerless style. I've had others, but tend to give them away to new tea enthusiasts, so they don't stick around long enough for photos.

I adore gaiwan (what is the plural? hmmmm...) but for some unknown reason, tend not to purchase them. Maybe when my chawan obsession cools off, I'll spend some time on finding the perfect gaiwan set(s)?

I think Sal brings up a really good point...one of which I had to battle myself with in my selections for the other semi-final contestants.....we must vote on the gaiwan NOT the picture........

On the other hand, all we have is the picture: we can't handle the gaiwan or brew tea with it. Also, a good gaiwan isn't just a pretty face. It's value is in relation to it's function within the context of the tea experience, so it's not just the look of the thing.

Well, not sure if I believe any of that ... just playing devil's advocate.
