2008 Mengku MuYeChun and now 2007 Mengsa Arbor...!

"Old Tree Green Cake" from YSLLC. This is not a review... though now that I've written it, it kinda reads like one. But it's mostly a question, I swear.

I had an interesting experience with this one. I'm beginning to think I need to have a "calibration tea" so that when I think my taste/smell has gone wonkers, I can brew a cup of the calibration tea to determine whether it's true or not.

So I brewed a cup of this tea this morning. My first two infusions of the tea were really quite enjoyable. It had a really nice taste, sweet, almost perfumey (not floral) but not overpowering. No astringency, no hay/grassy style. The flavor was perhaps just under represented, but I rather liked it -- maybe that's not so good for a 2008 and aging it.

I went to work. 12 hours later, I get back, really looking forward to picking up with the tea again, so I brew another cup (same leaves, just left them in the pot) -- and I get absolutely nothing... warm (yellowy) water. I tried two more (much longer) infusions. I had a little of the flavor back in the 4th, but by the 5th... nothing.

Times: 20s, 20s, (12 hour break), 30s (nothing!), 60s (minor flavor), 150s....

Has anybody tried this tea? I saw Trioxin's review, which didn't say much about staying power.

Right now I'm mostly wondering if my smell/taste has left me...! It started off so nice, too....

Edit: to add 2007 Mengsa Arbor to the title -- see below

experienced this phenomenon with other teas too,

one time its something, next time you're wondering what's going on, trying to recreate what you remembered

so uhm, yeah, not really an answer to your Q ... :D

Well, even if it's not on this specific tea, I guess it's good to know it happens. Well, maybe not good to know that such a thing can happen, but that I'm not crazy. Or at least, not crazy in this particular area.

So... I added 2007 Mengsa Arbor to the list (from Puerhshop) -- the only review I saw on here was a one or two liner that it was complex. Has anybody else tried this one? Any thoughts? I had it yesterday, and it was..... interesting.
