Leaving Green Tea Around

by quomaya2 » Apr 13th, '09, 22:27

How long can I refrigerate brewed green tea before it goes bad? I never feel like taking the time to go through the whole brewing process at night. For clarification, I mean tea that has already been brewed, not the actual tea leaves.

Unopened, several months to a year should be ok.

Once opened I would avoid putting green tea in the fridge as it's more hassle than it's worth and the tea will soak up the smells from the fridge, unless you are another one who has a tea fridge.

Edit: Ah, sorry I see what you mean now. I though you meant keeping the leaf in the fridge not the brewed tea, I've never done it so you can pretty much ignore this whole post.

A lot will depend on what you are storing it in. And keeping air as much as possible. I can usually get it to last a few days. A touch of honey will extend the shelf life.

Hot brewed green tea can last for 20 minutes not covered, after that is will change color, after a day it becomes brown, but I suggest ice brewing that lasts a lot, usually durin a hot summer day it is a blessing to drink ice sencha.
