Tuesday TeaDay 5/12/09 Fave tea percentage?

by Chip » May 12th, '09, 00:41

Greetings everyone and welcome to TeaDay. Please come in and share what is in your cup today.

Yesterday responders' top pick was neither slow nor fast as their tea journey speed. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. Hopefully I can clearly express the question. Generally speaking and over time, what percentage of your tea sessions include your favorite type (green, etc) of tea? Please discuss how and why?

I am looking forward to sharing this TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up!

Either
  • 1) I can't answer because I don't have a favorite or
    2) everything (the variety) is my favorite and that's
what I have 100% of the time but that answer would
    be meaningless.

Not very much so. This is the only bancha I have tasted. Apparently some bancha has a roasted taste, but I don’t find any in this one. It just has a very green tea taste, slightly sharp … with much larger leaf pieces than sencha and some stems, things you won’t see in high quality stuff. I like its green character quite a bit, not the crack cocaine intensity of sencha nor the luxurious feel of Chinese greens nor the chicken soup taste of gyokuro nor the rocket fuel sense of matcha … just a nice green tea taste. I think it may only suit lovers of green tea.

Thanks Sal, I still think I'll give it a try, I might just brew it a bit lighter.

As for the poll I guess 70% for me. I have a black for breakfast usually. The rest of the day it's oolongs. With the occasional white and green thrown in there.

I choose 90% since it really depends on my mood. Sometimes I want greens and other times I want malty blacks. Sometimes I want everything in one day.

A lot of it also depends on what I had for dinner.

Eh, gotta agree with Sal on this one.

Currently drinking... I think its a Xiaguan. From last night, so I can't really remember.

I'll guesstimate about 70 percent. My tea selection has expanded considerably these last couple of years, but I tend to come back to the whites.

Currently enjoying some Dragon Well (slurp).

I also voted 70- it seems like I mostly have green but also some other teas- currerntly oolongs if not sincha. I love so many teas but always seem to come back to the greens but I wouldn't be happy with just green. I hear you salsero!

Ocha YM sincha this morning

I went with 90%. Most kinds of tea are favourites depending on how I'm feeling, I know what I want at least 90% of the time.

Today: Just got some fresh green from Jing, mulling over which will be the first victim.

Hmm, also continuing with a Xia Guan here, but this one is just from last night, not last Friday (:

My most favorite tea is often the one I am drinking at the time the question is asked...

80% Black tea, with Pu-erh and the occasional green thrown in.

This will be my last post for awhile. My schedule at work will be changing and I won't be able to get on here at night like I used to when things slowed down. I've enjoyed my time here and may pop in occasionally to say hi. Take care, everyone.

I don't like what I'm reading here. :(
I sure hope you'll still come by, and more frequently than just occasionally. I really enjoy your posts.

Probably about 60%. I love the white and green teas but tend to stick with my darjeelings most days. I try to mix them up in order to use all my teas up without waste.

Margaret's Hope darjeeling this morning.
